When you’re a longtime reader of this blog, you may or may not remember that I haven’t been an overwhelming fan of Derek Lam’s handbags. Lam’s clothes are typically great, but when it comes time for accessories, this bag was not my thing, so to speak. Lastly, though, I’ve found a bag of his that I prefer with no reservation or qualification. This is a Derek Lam Elko Shoulder Bag.
Minimalism gets boring quickly when shared with neutral, noncommittal colors of beige and cream, but Lam’s decision to turn up the volume with an in-your-face color of orange-red shows just how statement-making and daring the trend can be. In some ways, this bag reminds me lots of Raf Simmons’ Jil Sander Spring 2011 collection: a familiar shape made modern by brilliant, saturated color.
A part of this bag’s beauty is its ease, both outside and inside. The pared-down flap external gives way to a slender interior lined in light fabric, with enough room for each day basics…and that’s it. The bag doesn’t employ any gimmicks or tricks, but in its place just fulfills its role like a bright, functional fashion piece to the best of its considerable ability.
A lot of going on to be described as that. Love the color though, that red looks yummy! More good tips of chelsea soccer jersey. Happy shopping!
